Initiatives to promote respect for human rights

Based on many years of experience in a wide range of supply chains in various industries as a group of professionals in machinery and technology, we recognize that working with suppliers to reduce human rights risks in the supply chain is an important issue and is part of the social responsibility that we must fulfill.
We have newly established a Human Rights Policy in accordance with the Basic Sustainability Policy and aim to create social value through business activities based on this policy.
We will comply with and respect international norms concerning human rights, take forward initiatives to promote respect for human rights at the level of the Group as a whole, and strive to fulfill its responsibilities.

Human Rights Policy

Based on our Corporate Motto, “Our motto is to contribute to society through our business activities,” we, as a group of professionals in machinery and technology, will continue to innovate and evolve in order to provide value to society and contribute to the creation of future value for industry. Toward the realization of a sustainable society, we have established the following Human Rights Policy to promote respect for human rights and to fulfill our responsibilities.

  1. Compliance with norms and laws regarding respect for human rights

We endorse and respect international norms concerning human rights, including the International Bill of Human Rights that sets out the basic human rights that every person anywhere in the world should be able to enjoy, and the International Labour Organization (ILO)’s ILO Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work that sets out basic rights at work (freedom of association and collective bargaining, prohibition of forced labor, the practical abolition of child labor, and the prohibition of discrimination in employment and occupation). This policy was formulated based on the United Nations’ Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights.
We shall comply with all applicable laws in the countries and territories in which we do business.
In the event of contradictions between internationally recognized human rights and the laws of a country or territory, we shall pursue a way to ensure maximum respect for the basic principles of international human rights.

  2. Responsibility to respect human rights throughout all business activities

We work to ensure that we do not infringe on the human rights of others, to minimize possible negative impacts on human rights across our business activities, and to proactively expand the practice of respect for human rights through our business activities.

  3. Scope of application

This policy shall apply to all officers and employees of the Group. Our suppliers and all other business partners are also expected to understand and comply with this policy.

  4. Due diligence on human rights

We strive to identify direct and indirect negative impacts on human rights in our business activities and to prevent or mitigate such impacts through the mechanism of human rights due diligence.

  5. Correction and remedy

If it becomes clear that we have caused or contributed to negative impacts on human rights, we will work to correct or remedy such impacts through appropriate means.
Even if we are not directly exacerbating negative impacts on human rights, should a business partner of the Group or any other involved party be directly linked to negative impacts on human rights through their business activities, we shall work to improve the situation with our stakeholders so that no violations of human rights occur.

  6. Dialog and discussions with stakeholders

Through its Corporate Ethics Code and initiatives stipulated in the policies and guidelines for each field, we will undertake initiatives to promote respect for human rights. With regard to actual or potential negative impacts on human rights, we shall hold dialog and discussions with the relevant stakeholders.

  7. Education for officers and employees

We reflect this policy in the necessary procedures to ensure that it takes root throughout our business activities, and continuously provide appropriate education and training to our officers and employees to ensure that this policy is understood and effectively implemented.

  8. Information disclosure

We shall strive to ensure proper disclosure of information with regard to initiatives to promote respect for human rights on the basis of this policy.

  9. Material issues concerning human rights

Given that the specific issues that need to be dealt with change depending on shifts in society, business trends, and other such factors, we hold dialogs and discussions with stakeholders and external experts, and reviews which issues should be material issues as necessary.
